Broadband for Surrey Hills update – Shortlisted for prestigious national award

Broadband for Surrey Hills (B4SH) has been shortlisted for the Independent Network Contractors Association (INCA) annual awards.  B4SH is nominated in the Best Community Project category, and one of B4SH’s wonderful volunteers, Tom Brook, has been shortlisted for the Outstanding Contribution award.

Making the shortlist in two categories is fantastic recognition for the hard work and dedication of B4SH and all its volunteers and investors, working to bring an outstanding community broadband service to the Surrey Hills.  The winners are to be announced late November.  Wish us luck!

In other developments B4SH continues to make rapid progress in Peaslake.  The project to connect up Wonham Way, Rad Lane and Birches Lane is almost complete, with the last few customers due to be connected shortly.  The next phase of the project, to connect the Plaws Hill area is already underway.

You may have become aware of commercial internet providers targeting Peaslake and other local areas.  B4SH provides a community full-fibre gigabit internet connection, which is run and supported by local people living in the community and is completely independent of Openreach and other providers.  The network is brand-new, installed out-of-sight underground and does not use anyone else’s poles or cables.  B4SH is not-for-profit, does not increase its prices annually and re-invests surplus funds back into the community.

Members of the B4SH team and some of the local champions are in the Hurtwood Inn every Wednesday from 6:30-7:30pm, to answer any questions you may have.  Please drop in and say hello.
